Where they are now

Following their last years at CGHS, many girls decide to pursue their passions for music in many different capacities- performance, education, management to name a few. Here we have some talented and hardworking people sharing their stories.

Aisha Nabhan

"Hi I’m Aisha. I graduated from CGHS in 2017, and am about to graduate with a Bachelor of Music from JMC Academy. I'm very grateful for the music program at CGHS, as I was involved in many activities and events like the school choir and MADD night (Music, Art, Dance, Drama) event which were definitely a highlight. With the help of all these events I auditioned for JMC and made it in! I am now in a band (Phat Reef) and we gig a fair bit. Along with my solo acoustic gigs that I do, I end up gigging on an average of 3 times a week. I also do have a single out so you can check that out too - thank you!"

Thandi Gudu

"My name is Thandi (although I go by artist name, Ms. Thandi now). I graduated from CGHS in 2016 and have been fortunate enough to be involved in many music projects since. When I left high school I joined a band called Motherfunk recording songs and performing in venues across Sydney and the East Coast. Since leaving them, I have sung for amazing Australian artists such as Adrian Eagle ('Like A Version' and 'The Set'), Kwame, and Genesis Owusu.

I am now working on my own solo project, recording and performing my original songs, with releases set to drop in November of this year. I am also lucky to be singing and performing with an jam packed since graduating from Canterbury Girls and I am eternally grateful for the opportunities I had at the school to develop my music and performance skills. Advice to the current musical talents: take absolutely every opportunity you can!!" up coming band called BoomChild. AND I occasionally also perform traditional South African music - balance! Life's been

Hi I'm Yasmina. I graduated from CGHS in 2019 and I've been lucky to be apart of many music opportunities during my time at CGHS. I was involved in the Talent Advancement Program (TAP), Talent Development Project (TDP),  Kools Skools, MADD NIGHT and more. I was very fortunate to write and record a few original songs with my band, i have earned some awards for a couple of my songs.

In 2020, i was lucky enough to fall into an opportunity with a new record label called Ivory. I have officially started my own first studio project with the help of leading producers, musicians and artists based in Sydney and around Australia. It will be an RnB project which is my strongest genre that i love. But it has been a very enlightening and overwhelming journey so far, but every session we knock off i have become more confident with my songwriting/free-styling skills and i learn more about myself as an artist and what i want for this project which is very important to me as an artist. I'm extremely grateful for this experience and to be gifted with this opportunity to employ all these music and performance skills that i've learnt at CGHS.

I'll soon be preparing to do some live gigs and will soon be releasing some new music, so stay tuned!!!!

"I’m Nina. I attended CGHS during 2019 and I’m very grateful for the knowledge and experience that the school has given me in terms of music. My experience as a music student at CGHS was one of the biggest contributors for me to flourish artistically. The Music Department has provided me with a number of opportunities to thrive vocally and musically through it’s enthusiastic performances and continuous support, it was the perfect environment for me to come out of my shell.

In mid-2020, I independently released my first single “You.”, self produced, recorded and written. I have featured in multiple collaborations with other independent artists globally as well as joining collectives of other young artists. I’m currently working on multiple project collaborations and continuing on working towards my discography while still balancing my life with school."

scout eastment

Hi, my name is Scout and I went to Canterbury Girls a few years ago. Since high school, I have worked to build a career as a musician. I helped start a band called Egoism that has allowed me opportunities such as playing the Opera House, touring the East coast of Australia and getting played on Triple J/Rage. The music program really helped developed skills that have been so important in my development as a musician. I learned to work in a collaborative and independent way when putting songs together, learned the basics of using a DAW to produce and record music, learned to perform different genres and different roles and had opportunities to write and perform originals and covers that gave me such a head start. I’m really grateful to teachers I had and all the ways I was supported at Canterbury Girls!
